My Pledge

I'm about to commence a journey to somewhere I believe in. I hope that you will follow me; be with me when I stumble and fall; celebrate the highs with me. This will be a journey that won't start with "once upon a time", and may not end with "they all lived happily ever after". That is what makes it a journey worth taking.

The journey has begun - come join me.
I'm inspired. I wasn't looking for inspiration - I just found it. I could blame Tom Cruise and 1988's "Cocktail". "I bet he's got a success manual behind the bar. Come on, where is it?" But it isn't his fault. I just saw a couple of books on writers and blogging, and something inside me told me to get reading. It was something I felt deep inside my belly, a willing; a drive that I could not ignore. So I did - I got reading. Jeff Goins spoke to me in his book "You are a Writer (So Start Acting Like One)". Yes Jeff, you are right. I haven't been acting like one. It's time to change. I believe in writing. It is who I am - and heck, it has taken me long enough to realise that and take it seriously.

So I mean to start acting like a writer. I mean to speak from somewhere deep down inside myself and be honest and true to myself and my readers. The first thing I need to do of course is write more. A little obvious, but I make my pledge. It isn’t going to be easy with all the worrying about my health and my father with his Alzheimer’s. These are always going to be distractions – and important ones I can not ignore. I know I will never be able to show what I write to my father and see him smile in pride, but my pledge is made nonetheless. Something visceral within my body told me to write, and I hope it is that same thing which will drive me onwards.

I'll keep you updated on my journey while I try to accomplish my goals of creating a successful blog, growing myself and my brand when I find it. I'll share the pain and champagne. I hope you'll join me, and take a sip of course.

I too have a desire to write but apart from poems about people I have had little success and am finding it harder as the years roll by to maintain motivation. You have youth on your side and have discovered a motivation. Your illness and that which has swept over Terry like an angry tide are obvious blocks but I know you have the determination to succeed and my prayers are that you find peace in the family for the rest of your lives.

I look forward to journeying with you and keeping up to date with the blog! I can relate to the "needing to feel like a writer" thing a lot. Slow and steady wins the race sometimes. A little writing is better than none at all! :)
